Immigration & Border Security

Democrats and Republicans Have Failed Americans on Immigration Policy

It is time for a national immigration policy which puts the needs of American citizens first. We don’t need to allow every single person to enter our country. Immigration must be based on merit, and in the rule of law. Illegal immigration is a national crisis and an affront to the rule of law.

The American people know that illegal immigration destroys American jobs by crashing wages on the lowest paying jobs, which perpetuates dependency on welfare. It drains the coffers of social services to the tune of billions and leads to crime and civic breakdown.

Americans have been betrayed by politicians on both sides of the aisle – Republicans who invited the cheap labor as a gift to corporate donors and Democrats who pander to ethnic lobbies and are enthralled with foolish ideas about a borderless world. The public has the will to fix this problem, but the politicians do not, and so politicians say one thing and do another, and the problem remains.

Long Island Can Benefit from New National Immigration Policies

It doesn’t have to be this way. The current moment is an opportunity to reverse this decades-old trend and achieve real and lasting border security.

  • We need a real physical barrier that actually keeps people from walking into our country.
  • We need enforcement of existing laws, rather than the culture of lawlessness and looking the other way that both parties have imposed on us for too long.
  • We need swifter action where deportation is called for.
  • And we need a real crackdown on those businesses which are part of the problem.

Enforce Federal Laws by Defunding Sanctuary Cities

I will strongly advocate for action by the federal government that includes defunding so- called “sanctuary cities.” The debate over state nullification of federal law was fought in the 1950s in the context of states resisting desegregation of schools. The federal government won that fight. States were not free to ignore federal law then, and states and localities are not free to ignore federal law now.

Legal, Merit-Based Immigration is the Path to Increased Diversity and Success

As the child of an immigrant who came to the United States from Israel when he was in his mid-twenties, I fully support immigration – but legal immigration. There can be no jumping in line. As the greatest country on Earth, the United States has the ability to pick and choose who to allow in. We need policies that prioritize highly-skilled would-be immigrants, rather than the free-for-all and “visa lottery” system we have seen for years. We need policies which allow highly-educated foreign students to remain in this country, rather than leaving as soon as they graduate from our prestigious universities, taking so much human capital and brain power with them.

I believe in robust and purposeful immigration, which keeps our diverse nation climbing higher and functioning better. But, illegal immigration must be stopped. If it is to be stopped, the moment is now. Now is our chance to pass meaningful immigration policies that make sense.

You Have Choices. Choose Ameer Benno for Congress

Because we live in this great country, we can make changes. We can elect someone who will tackle the causes we believe in. Someone who wants to stop implementing arbitrary immigration policies. Someone who wants to crack down on illegal immigration and maintain the safety and integrity of our county. I am that someone.
