Debt & Spending

Government Spending is Out of Control

We have a debt crisis in our country. Government spending and borrowing have skyrocketed over the last 10 years, and it is our children and grandchildren who will have to pay the tab. Our national debt will soon reach $20 trillion – that staggering sum is equal to our entire Gross Domestic Product.

Politicians’ indifference to the national debt is a ticking time bomb and poses a mortal threat to the U.S. dollar and its long-held status as the world’s preferred currency. This, in turn, poses a mortal threat to our country’s long term economic well-being. We must take concrete steps to get our fiscal house in order, restrain spending, and bring down our debt. This cannot wait. The survival of our nation depends on it.

Corrupt Politicians are Misusing Taxes

This out-of-control spending is predominantly due to federal entitlement programs. These programs cost money – a lot of it. Where does it come from? You.

Instead of levying taxes to cover the truly necessary government expenditures, career politicians for far too long have gotten away with using taxation to redistribute wealth and prop up failed liberal social welfare programs. It is a massive Ponzi scheme that is both immoral and economically ruinous. Driving up the debt and printing more money to pay for it is a recipe for disaster. It must stop.

Higher National Debt = Higher Taxes and Inflation

Higher debt means higher taxes, higher inflation, higher interest rates, and a decrease in private investment in business. That, in turn, results in a sluggish economy, unemployment, and loss of wealth. More importantly, future generations will have to foot the bill for our unbridled spending today.

In his 1796 farewell address, George Washington cautioned Americans to avoid the “accumulation of debt” and to not “throw upon posterity the burden which we ourselves ought to bear.” Should our children and grandchildren suffer because of the government’s irresponsible policies?

America Must Exercise Fiscal Restraint

Government is incapable of restraining itself. The recent 1.3 trillion appropriations bill was over 2,000 pages long, but members of Congress had only 15 hours to read it and a mere 2 hours to debate it. This is the very definition of reckless spending. And no wonder, since it is not the politicians’ money. Politicians can only be held accountable at the ballot box.

I strongly advocate for fiscal responsibility and restraint. To ensure the sustainable health of our national economy, we need fiscal policies that get our debt under control and stop wasting taxpayer money. I have the resolve to stand firm in my convictions, to work zealously to scale back our debt and to resist those who want to use your hard-earned money to bankroll their spending spree.

We Need Constitutional Limits on Federal Spending

There must be a cap on the amount of money our elected officials can spend. Without it, there is no way to stop this cycle. I support a Constitutional Amendment limiting federal spending to no more than 20% of GDP.

We have the chance to make sound fiscal policy a permanent feature of American political life, and to free ourselves from the omnipresent threat that, with every shift in political winds, the rapacity of career politicians will turn the economy on its head, while digging an ever-deeper hole for future generations.

I will fight for permanent shackles on the government’s power to take your hard-earned money and waste it, as politicians are expert at doing. You spend your money wisely. The government should go to great lengths do the same.

You Have Choices. Choose Ameer Benno for Congress

Because we live in this great country, we can make changes. We can elect someone who will tackle the causes we believe in. Someone who will fight for the economic health of our nation and against irresponsible government spending and debt. I am that someone.

Together, we can create a better New York: one where families and businesses reap the rewards of their hard work.
